Artists represented include Francks Deceus, Charly Palmer, Cedric Smith, Ann Tanksley, April Harrison, Milton Bowens, Tamara Madden, Teri Richardson, Karen Powell, Henry Porter, Tonya Engel, Jean Chiang and Alexandria Smith.

The exhibition, at which many of the artists will be present, opens with a reception on Friday, February 19, 5-8 PM. Open this Saturday and Sunday afternoon noon – 6pm. Fine Art Building featuring new works by gallery artists and other invited artists.

Our monthly group shows and marketing workshop weekends have become a very popular forum for artists looking to expand their outreach and marketing awareness. They are energetic weekends filled with informative seminars by industry experts, social activities, networking and learning designed to encourage and educate artists on the process of marketing and pricing and their work. 2010 International Juried Show Video

At Rogue Space, we love to share cool things with our friends and family. The Quant Charity Evening fashion show “Dress You Up In Love” will be held January 28th showcasing the work of designers Gemma Kahng, Yeohlee, and Zang Toi. The benefit will feature artwork by Hye Rim Lee, curated by Mie Iwatsuki and Koan Jeff Baysa. While in New York (LA is still his home base) he started taking pictures of the city with his flip cell phone (1.3 megapixels) simply as a lark between shoots.  He began fiddling with the images in a basic free photo organizer with surprising results, then sharing them on facebook where the response from his friends and colleagues was singular: DO A SHOW!

New York–Jane Gennaro will exhibit a survey of reliefs, sculptures and assemblages from the past seven years at Rogue House, from October 22-November 14, 2009. An opening reception will be held on Thursday October 22 from 6-8pm at the gallery, located at 526 W. 26^th St., 9F. Gallery hours are 11am-6pm, Tuesday-Saturday. The exhibition will focus on two of Gennaro’s major series, which use insects, eggs and bones, as well as vintage handkerchiefs and illustrations.

Gennaro will be reading her monologue “Shaking the Goose Egg” eight times during the run of the exhibition. The monologue recounts her confrontation with a pair of wild geese which was the impetus for beginning the visual work on display. Reading schedule: Sunday Oct. 25 at 1pm, Friday Oct. 30 at 7pm, Saturday Oct. 31 at 3pm, Thursday Nov. 5 at 7pm, Friday Nov. 6 at 7pm, Saturday Nov. 7 at 3pm, Thursday Nov. 12 at 7pm, Friday Nov. 13 at 7pm.

The show’s title, Articulate Remains, refers to the artist giving voice to the objects that she finds in nature. Gennaro has written that, “The process begins with observation and culminates in storytelling….The impulse is to save these things and transform them into personal yet universal narratives that will seduce and disturb.”

Being an artist allows one to show others how you see the world. For artists like Cassy Giacci, their art goes beyond the tangible world and create a world all their own. Despite only painting seriously for the last few years, she has already created a dazzling personal world complete with its own landmarks and creatures. This world saw its start in her early childhood drawings, but later she would deny her creativity. Now that she has accepted her art, this world she envisioned has taken a life of its own.

            Viewing her artwork allows us to look through a lush dreamworld that has proven to be the artist’s sanctuary. Ms. Giacci admits that her work is not necessarily intended as a series, although she does confess that she can recognize unintentional pairings. Instead, they are reminiscent of pages torn from a vivid fairy story. Together these pieces form a complex world complete with its own dazzling architecture, extravagant landscapes, gigantic flowers as well as various chimerical inhabitants. The artist reveals that this world is “…the place I wanted to live in, that I was always convinced was real.” This world is not a perfected escapist fabrication. Many of her pieces depict lush landscapes, colorful vegetation and biomorphic shapes. There are other pieces that contain shadowy, menacing figured and unexpected monsters. This visual sanctuary proves to be as potentially dangerous as it is alluring.

Through careful brushes strokes, vibrant colors and an intense vision- Cassy Giacci envisions a world, a whole reality beyond this one. Although some may dismiss her world as fantasy, it is also hopeful and full of beginnings. Rather than waiting for a beautiful dream to come true- Cassy Giacci has created her own.

Shaking The Goose Eggs

A Monologue by Jane Gennaro

So You Think You Can Dance, is an installation that comments on art, architecture, high fashion, music and dance; examining the connection between the two worlds of fine art and pop culture.

Three motorized skirt sculptures, each reaching 10 feet high, evoke a graceful image of dancers in motion. The skirts, made from boning material used in dressmaking, create slivers of sensuous lines that appear to be drawn and placed into space. Hanging from mobile armatures at the ceiling each of the skirts nine tiers of boning is individually attached with invisible thread, inviting the viewers to touch and cause the skirts to undulate in an independent swing to the music.

The architecture of the narrow gallery space inspired the skirts in-line placement and led to choosing music representative of Irish Riverdance, a dance performed in a line and genres of music that enhance the fast paced, heart pumping strut of models queued on a fashion runway.

Ellen Brous holds a Bachelor of Arts from Queens College. She has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in the New York City area and is a former teacher.
